Tips to score more than 40 in QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE

imageQuantitative aptitude is a significant section in SSC CGL exam and it is scoring if you prepare it well. This section is of 50 marks with 25 questions.
As each question carries 2 marks therefore it is essential to prepare every topic so well to face any level of questions from any of the topics. Try to score at least 45 marks in this section so that you can get a good score overall.
On the basis of the previous year analysis of the question papers it is observed that there are some significant topics appearing regularly in the SSC CGL EXAM and these topics are:
  1. Ratio
  2. Average
  3. Number System
  4. Simplification
  5. Time & Work
  6. Time, Speed & Distance
  7. I. & C.I.
  8. Profit & Loss/ Discount
  9. Coordinate Geometry
  10. Geometry
  11. Mensuration
  12. Trigonometry
  13. Percentage
  14. Algebra
  15. DI
The topics that are of greatest significance are Geometry/Mensuration, Algebra/Trigonometry/Height and Distance, Ratio/Percentage/profit, Loss and Discount, Time speed and distance/ Train/ Boats and Stream and Data Interpretation.
Before discussing topics in detail, we should first understand that Accuracy and Time Management are the sole key factors for success. So, let’s now discus the important topics in detail: -

1. Geometry/Mensuration

In last few years, the questions from these topics has increased significantly in Tier-I exam. The difficulty levels of questions have too increased and so the competition level has also been raised. In Geometry, the students are supposed to learn and remember all the important theorems, Pythagoras triplet, all the formulas of the area of triangle and circle. You should be perfect in basics of all concepts and drawing figures to obtain correct answers.  While preparing Mensuration, the students should focus on cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere, Prism, Pyramid, Sphere, and Tetrahedron. The basics of all concepts should be properly understood and prepared.

2. Algebra/Trigonometry/Height and Distance

The students can expect around 5 to 7 questions from these topics. The topics of Algebra include basic formulas of cubes, squares, trigonometric ratios and identities. The questions are often repeated from these topics and so it is highly advisable to study and examine previous year papers. You should try to learn, remember and practice trigonometric identities and all important tables, formulas and theorems to score well in the exam.

3. Ratio/Percentage/profit, Loss and Discount

The students should properly note that the basic foundation of percentage and ratio are the foundation of chapters like Profit, Loss and Discount. To enhance the speed of solving questions, the students must remember all fractional value up to 30 in terms of percentage. In addition, you should also understand that Profit, loss and discount revolve around 4 terms and they are C.P, S.P, M.P and Discount. The students should try to understand the relations between them and try to practice questions based on them.

4. Time speed and distance/ Train/ Boats and Stream

It is experienced that around 4 to 5 questions are frequently asked from these topics. The students should try to learn inverse relation and direct relation between time, speed and distance. The problems based on trains, boasts and stream can be solved through concept of relative velocity. The students are supposed to practice a variety of problems and try to apply appropriate concepts in solving them.

5. Time and Work/pipes and Cistern

The questions based on time and work can be solved through LCM method which can be very time-consuming. The students should try to learn and practice concepts of alternate work, efficiency and work and wages. The students should take topic tests to enhance their speed of solving questions.

6. Data Interpretation

The questions based on Data Interpration are relatively easier than other topics. It is important to understand the question first and then try to apply the logic in solving them.
To enhance your chances of selection, it is highly advisable that students should join online video course or coaching classes for SSC CGL exam. It is because it provides proficiently prepared study material which is not only relevant but also easy to understand. The concept of “interactive mode of learning” is catching fast and it has enhanced learning in all the aspirants. Do wisely select the best available in the market and work smartest to attain success.
